Visual Narrative

For my visual narrative, I chose two locations that are both located on the campus of Guilford College. Guilford College has been around for as long as Greensboro has been a city, therefore there will be many myths created by the mysticism of such an old campus. The his first set of pictures are taken in the Dana auditorium, located on the campus of Guilford College, and it is the first building you see on the right hand side when you enter the campus. For years, there have been rumors of hauntings in that area. The story behind the haunting is that, Dana auditorium was a hospital during the revolutionary war. Since, one of the deadliest battles of the war was held in Greensboro, there is no certainty that many deaths and myths have occurred through this site. After interviewing many students on the campus, they mentioned that there has been many weird noises and figures that have been seen and heard while living on the campus. You van definitely feel the energy when you the Dana auditorium. One thing that made it creepier, was the janitor I tried to talk to before entering the building. I was walking up to the building and noticed this guy on a go cart and proceeded to ask him some questions. After asking him questions regarding the haunting, he told me that I was not allowed inside the building and that I needed permission from someone from a administration position. Then he proceeded to tell me that the story was a myth and drove off on his go-cart. located in the main entrance of the auditorium as well as the stage

For my second stop on the Guilford College haunting tour, was Hobbs dorm. There is story that during a slumber party, a little girl by the name of Mary Hobbs was burned alive while hosting a slumber in the third story of her parents home, which is now located on the campus of Guilford College. There have been many reports of haunting, the usual stuff that consists of books flying off the shelves and lights flickering. The one report that shook my bones the most was that someone heard they heard the piano playing in the lobby of dorm and nobody was playing the piano. AS or tour continued to the attic where she had burned alive.

Going up into the attic, was one of the oddest experiences I have ever had in my life. When I got up the ladder that led us into the attic, I felt my body shift, not a lot but enough for me too notice the sensation. I came to find out later that one of my friends I was with had the same experience that I had. After everyone made it into the attic and we turned the lights on, we came across another bizarre finding. The whole attic was still in the same condition it was after it had burned down, and some of the same appliances like the tub and sink still up in the attic, after over 100 years.

It is definetly a weird place, with energy that you can't find in other places. The fact that everything has been left untouched gives it a haunted vibe as well. Why would you leave a place that has been ruined by flames? It is a school campus with a lot of money, but for some reason this room has been left alone, to stand in time in the condition it was left when a family once lived there.

In producing te phots, I was trying to evoke a creepy image, from what I saw and felt from being at the haunted places. When trying to develop a story through the images, I tried to do what I felt was right. By communicating to the audience the events that actuall occurred during my travels t these sites. I feeel that film and television have influenced my thought in the supernatual and influenced greatly to learn more about the occurrences.

Introduction

My name is patrick Donovan, and I am a senior and I am majoring in Communication Studies, although my main focus is film. Which is why I enrolled in this class, to gain insight into media and film and how they are affected by popular culture.

My opinios on popular culture in today's sociey, is that it is really bringing the whole industry down. I feel that the creativity that was once involved in film-making has been replaced by what the media thinks we want to see. I blame this directly on the media because they are giving all the exposure to the young teenagers, because that is what is making the most money. It is kind of sad because there are alot of film out there, that are really good but they are not getting the recognition they deserved.

So I am looking forward to this class, and learnigns much as possible about the information that I have skimmed through on the website.
